Tattooing was still fighting to shake off its fringe reputation. The idea of a structured, professional tattoo apprenticeship was genuinely foreign to most people inside the industry, let alone outside it. And the typical person walking through the door of a tattoo studio looking for a shot at this career was almost always the same profile: young, already drawing, already obsessed with tattoo culture.
A lot has changed since then. The industry changed. The people coming to us changed. And Ink Different Tattoos changed with all of it.

When Ink Different Tattoos opened its first studio, tattooing was in the middle of a cultural shift. Reality TV was bringing the craft into living rooms across the country. Tattoos were becoming mainstream in a way they never had been before. Demand for talented Tattoo Artists was growing fast.
But the infrastructure to train those Tattoo Artists hadn't caught up. The traditional model, informal apprenticeships built on personal connections and a lot of luck, wasn't designed to scale. It wasn't designed to be fair, either.
Over the past 15 years, the industry has continued to professionalize. Licensing requirements have tightened. Tattoo studio standards have risen. Clients are more informed and more discerning than ever. How Our Offerings Evolved
We started with one thing: a Traditional Tattoo Apprenticeship built around genuine mentorship and a clear path to becoming a licensed Tattoo Artist.
That's still the core of everything we do. But fifteen years of listening to what Tattoo Artists actually need has added a lot to the picture.
The Master Mentorship Program came out of a simple observation: working Tattoo Artists who had already built careers still wanted to grow, and they deserved access to the best in the industry to do it. Our podcast grew out of a desire to keep the conversation going beyond the studio walls. Fifty-plus episodes later, it's become a valuable resource for anyone interested in the craft and the culture.

And our expansion to 48 studio locations nationwide came from demand. More communities wanted access to a proper tattoo apprenticeship, and we kept showing up to meet them.

In the early days, the people coming to Ink Different Tattoos were mostly younger artists who had always wanted to tattoo and just needed a true way in. That group is still very much here. But over fifteen years, the picture has gotten a lot wider.
